Dream Catcher with Willow Branch Wheel
Willow Branch Wheel.
6" wheel with a small pieces of Turquoise, beads and feathers.
20" overall length, which includes the hangar.
The dream Catcher was a personal fetish, bestowing its medicine on its owner while he slept, by catching bad dreams in its webbing and allowing the pleasant dreams to pass through to him.
Used by the Woodland Indians, the Dreamcatcher was hung in the lodge near the bedroom window. Its use was to catch all the dreams, good or bad. The bad dreams would get trapped in the webbing and held until first morning light when they would be burned off. Knowing their way to the center, as the good dreams were caught, they would filter down into the feathers and be held there only to return another night and be dreamed again.
